The Warrnambool and District league clubs’ bid to take over the running of the competition is back on track after a club forum on Wednesday night in Warrnambool.

The clubs’ spokesman Justin Balmer said issues surrounding the league’s governance were discussed alongside finals arrangements during the annual mid-year meeting between the independent board and clubs.
Board president Ken McSween and member Sara Quinn were present at the meeting, but Balmer said the clubs were keen to push on with plans to replace the board with a delegates system.
“The matter was not resolved to the satisfaction of the clubs, so we will be proceeding to the special general meeting as planned,” Balmer said on Thursday.
Earlier this week McSween wrote to clubs saying he had independent legal advice that their request for a special general meeting was invalid.
The special general meeting will go ahead as previously planned on June 27.
It is yet another development in the league’s governance saga which started earlier this year when the majority of the independent executive resigned leaving McSween and Quinn on their own. McSween has recruited two fresh members in recent weeks in a hope of maintaining the independent board.
