Harry Bermingham, Nathan Phillips and Will van der Starre were part of the under 15 Geelong Region representative side that won the Country Championships at Shepparton. Teams from across Victoria competed in the championships.
Geelong Region defeated Albury 2-0 in the grand final on Monday. Phillips was the star of the win, kicking the team’s two goals.
The first goal came within minutes of the game starting while the second went into the back of the net during the second half.
The grand final victory was the culmination of an unbeaten body of work across the weekend from the Geelong Region team. It’s qualifying games on Saturday and Sunday included two wins and two draws.
Bermingham, 15, Phillips, 14, and Will van der Starre, 14, all play club soccer with Geelong Rangers.
The win was part of a big week for Warrnambool soccer players with the city’s two team’s that compete in the Ballarat and District Soccer Association both having huge wins.
The Warrnambool Rangers men’s team defeated Ballarat SC 7-1. The Rangers women’s team had an even bigger day out with a massive 17-0 victory over Bacchus Marsh SC. Isabel Wilkinson was the star of the win, kicking five goals.
The women’s Rangers are on top of the ladder and will travel this Sunday to play Ballarat North United SC.
The men’s team will also be on the road against Forest Rangers SC.
