Having roots in Woolsthorpe, the Australian politician and dairy farmer has steered clear of the lure of the city, raising her four children in the pastoral settlement.
The former nurse has also been named both Victorian and Australian Rural Woman of the Year in 2009.
Ms Britnell answered this week’s Moyne Gazette Q&A.
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time? I don’t need much sleep these days but any extra time I had would be spent working, there’s always something to read, phone calls to make and always something to get my head around.
What’s your favourite drink? Tea, it is my go to when I am in the office and whenever I have five minutes for a quick break but I do like a beer as well.
What songs have you completely memorised? The entire Grease soundtrack, it’s my favourite movie and I love the music. I was lucky enough to meet Olivia Newton John in Parliament a few weeks ago, it was a huge thrill and I was a bit starstruck.
What could you give a 40-minute presentation on with no preparation? The value of the region’s food and fibre sector and the role we can play in providing food security to the world for generations to come.
What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives? Travel. I’ve always said the best way to learn is to experience. Travel opens your eyes to so much, especially when visiting countries that don’t have it as good as we do.
What are you most looking forward to in the next 10 years? Apart from the election of a Matthew Guy Government and South West Coast continuing to thrive, I’m looking forward to watching my children make their mark on life and providing more grandchildren.
Where is the most interesting place you’ve been? Inner Mongolia. It was fascinating to learn about the ancient culture and to experience a completely different way of life.
What city would you most like to live in? I’m not the city type. I prefer regional living, so right where I am is perfect.
What movie title best describes your life? ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’ can be an accurate description for life in Parliament.
