While a dusting of snow is expected to cover Thredbo and Perisher, it's not likely to be enough to open all ski runs and staff say next week may deliver better prospects.
Thredbo spokeswoman Susie Diver on Friday said there would be no skiing or boarding until staff have either natural snow or a chance to make snow.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicted a 70 per cent chance of snow at 1800 metres on Saturday with a high chance of rain.
For those desperate for a run, Victoria's Mt Buller is the best option, with the resort opening its Blue Bullet chairlift on Saturday.
