League leading goal kicker Jarrod Korewha (knee) and Dallas Mooney (calf) spent time on the bench during the Saints’ 15.8 (98) to 5.11 (41) win over Camperdown at Victoria Park on Saturday.
Korewha returned to the field, finishing with an equal game-high three goals as the Saints maintained their unbeaten record.
Rebounding defender Mooney was forced from the ground in the second term and played no further part despite “wanting to go back on”.
“Jarrod was tackled awkwardly and twisted his knee a bit,” McLaren said.
“He was a little bit lame but played the rest of the game out. He had a little bit of a bruised knee cap the week of interleague. He is OK.
“Dallas had a tight calf at the start of the second quarter so we got him off quickly.
“We were ultra cautious.”
Camperdown coach Phil Carse was optimistic after the Magpies’ first loss of the season.
“I thought we were really competitive, especially in the early stages,” he said.
“We cost ourselves. We had 13 scoring shots to 16 at three-quarter-time but were five or six goals down.”
The Magpies also had their injury concerns with Luke Mahony and Sam Cunnington copping corkies.
“We had no rotations which didn’t help at the backend of the game,” Carse said.
“We ran out of legs and Koroit are a super fit side.”
