Hampden will send three teams – under 17s, under 15s and under 13s – to the Netball Victoria association regional championships in Ballarat on Sunday.
South Warrnambool wing attack Meg Kelson is excited to wear the Bottle Greens’ dress at under 17 level.
“I’ve probably been picked because I can get off the line most of the time and my quick drives,” she said.
Kelson said teammates, North Warrnambool Eagles’ Amelia Chow and Camperdown’s Krystal Baker, would be game-changers at the round-robin competition which doubles as a state qualifier.
“They are both really strong goalies and work really well in the ring,” she said.
South Warrnambool goal attack Olivia Marris is bullish about the under 15 Bottle Greens’ chances.
“We’ve been working really well together at training so that will definitely benefit us,” she said.
“For South, I play goal attack but for this team I think I will be a centre and wing attack as well, just because I am a lot stronger than a few of the girls on my team.”
Marris said Port Fairy duo Ava Pierce and Ashley Evans would play major roles.
“Ashley’s really strong and her drives are really good and Ava is a really nice shooter and she’s very quick around the ring,” she said.
Koroit’s Sienna Batt, who will represent Hampden for the first time, is excited to play at a higher level as part of the under 13 team.
“We are pretty strong and we all work well together,” she said.
“I play goal attack but I think I might have got picked because I can also play defence.”
Batt picked Camperdown’s Ruby Conheady and Cobden's Jessica Bouchier as the two players to watch on Sunday.
“Ruby is a very strong defender and she’s really strong under the ring and Jess is a very good goalie and gets a lot of goals in,” she said.
