Activities have been planned over four weekends, beginning on the June 8-10 Queens Birthday long weekend.
The other weekends will be June 22-24, July 6-8 and July 20-22.
Winter weekends organiser Loren Tuck, who is part of the 10-person volunteer organising committee, said the program has plenty to offer.
“We don’t have a theme because we want to embrace diversity,” Ms Tuck said.
“It is about art, culture, community, environment and so many other things.
“We want to get people to get out and moving and having adventures, or cosying up with a long lunch or a good film.
“Winter is about finding something new or seeing old things in a new way.”
Ms Tuck said the committee has focused on improving the reach of the event to young families.
This has been done through the addition of children’s activities such as a fairy hunt, which will take place throughout the town over each of the weekends.
This will also include a children’s writing competition.
“With fun4kids in Warrnambool no longer happening, we saw a gap there which needed filling,” Ms Tuck said.
“We have activities where families can be adventurous and have fun together.
“The fairy hunt will be great fun and will get families out and about in Port Fairy and give them a great chance to discover the town.”
This year will also see the return of the Light Up Port Fairy project.
A version of this was held during the winter weekends program two years ago but the committee has brought it back to life, thanks to funding from Moyne Shire Council, the Port Fairy Folk Festival and Pacific Hydro.
Buildings around the town will be lit up, with a focus on those along the Moyne River.
“There are so many wonderful heritage buildings in Port Fairy we want to show off,” Ms Tuck said.
“And the river is such a spectacular part of the town, the Light Up Port Fairy is a very exciting project.”
A feature of the first winter weekend will be the running of the 12th annual Dachshund Dash at Southcombe Park.
