You’d be forgiven for thinking it was spring racing on the first day of the May carnival with blue skies greeting punters.
Crowd numbers for the first day were up six per cent on last year’s figures. The club reported 6278 people filed through the gates compared to 5923 last year and 5338 in 2016. Learn more
