Detective Acting Sergeant Wayne Ryan, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said officers executed the search warrant at the home early Thursday and recovered stolen goods.
He said those goods were recently stolen from a nearby Swan Street address during a burglary.
"The stolen property recovered included the antique chainsaw which is of great sentimental value as it belonged to the victim's brother," he said.
"A man in his 30s is expected to assist police with our inquiries. He was not at home to be arrested this morning."
Anyone with information is requested to contact the Warrnambool police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
