Portland police Acting Sergeant Vicki Phillips said light rain failed to deter about 1000 people who attended the dawn service at Portland, including serving police officers.
At Hamilton Senior Constable Michael Vaughan said a huge crowd of about 1000 people attended the city’s service.
“There were very big numbers and we have the parade up here at 10am,” he said.
Colac police Senior Constable Pat Wilson said about 500 people attended the dawn service in his city.
“It was a very good turn out,” he said.
At Warrnambool Acting Sergeant Ben Timpson said about 4000 people attended the dawn service.
“There was a massive crowd for what was a very touching service,” he said.
