Warrnambool Greyhound Racing general manager Craig Monigatti said several big names, including south-west group one winner Lightning Frank, were among the chances.
He said the cup was blessed with strong fields and had capitalised on its winter timeslot to attract the nation’s best greyhounds.
“We’ve got great heat fields even – there are seven heats. The headlines acts are (Lightning Frank) and Striker Light, who is a three-time group one winner,” Monigatti said. “We’re lucky at this time of year because we don’t clash with the major Melbourne meets. That means the best dogs in Victoria and from outside the state often come down to race.”
Monigatti hoped promising weather encouraged people to flock to the track.
“The weather has been fantastic this week and it looks quite good for next week too,” he said.
The club’s cup heats will run on Anzac Day, with the first race kicking off at 7pm.
The Warrnambool Cup night is on May 2.
