But connections helped lure the former Brisbane West Lions player to Camperdown for the 2018 Hampden league season.
Her friend, Camperdown footballer and fellow Queenslander Harrison Hunkin, encouraged her to join the club.
Morssinkhof is now travelling from the city each week to play for the Sharon Kenna-coached Magpies.
“I wasn’t going to play because I didn’t know of much down here… I was like ‘you know I’ll retire at 21’,” she joked.
“I really like the town. I thought I’d play a practice match and really enjoyed it.
“It’s a good comp out here. I wasn’t planning to play moving down but I really like the girls so I thought I’d stick around. It was a tough, hard-working game (against Warrnambool). That’s the difference since I’ve moved here – it’s a hard contest. It’s good, everyone loves their footy and netball down here.”
Morssinkhof, who is studying engineering at RMIT and working part-time, made her Victorian debut in wind and rain against Terang Mortlake.
The mild, still conditions which greeted her against Warrnambool on Saturday were welcomed.
“I was in for a rude shock,” she said of the round one weather.
“In Queensland if there’s a drop of rain it’s ‘cancel it, better not play’ so it was definitely a new experience for me playing in conditions like that but it was good to get the win. This week was a lot better, we’re looking a lot stronger than last week.
“Warrnambool were a really good side, so we did a really good to stick at it.”
Kenna, who has started her Camperdown coaching tenure with two straight wins, said Morssinkhof could play a variety of roles including goals and midcourt.
“She’s very dynamic, very strong,” she said.
