South Warrnambool’s Ben Annett, Camperdown’s Toby Mahony and Hamilton Kangaroos debutant James Cleaver were among the Rebels’ best on Sunday.
Grieg said the trio were shining lights in the three-goal defeat.
“We had another two first gamers, of which James was one. We’ve now used 33 or 34 players and we’re happy to change it up,” he said.

“We’ll go back and work on a few things. Toby Mahony is a bottom-ager and we know he’s played as a forward a lot.
“But we’ve been using him as an inside midfielder because he gets his arms up well. Ben Annett had a better game again, he’s new to the system and he’s learning the tempo. It was one of his most consistent efforts.”
Grieg lamented wasted scoring opportunities in the defeat.
“The scoreboard probably reflected our day. We didn’t have good players for the whole game, just players that played well in patches,” he said. “We had guys have one good quarter and three okay ones. You want it around the other way.”
