That’s the assessment from Seahawks coach Tim Gainey after they fell to Shepparton Gators at the Arc on Saturday night. Gainey said Warrnambool’s poor choices cost it in the 87-80 defeat.
“I thought James Mitchell played well and rebounded but didn’t shoot as well as he wanted to,” he said.
“But we missed him when he had opportunities as well. As a team, we have to realise where the mismatches are at.
“We didn’t capitalise. Our IQ is pretty weak at the moment.”
Gainey said the Seahawks played well in bursts but struggled to seize the moment when it came down to the crunch.
“Our offence gets stagnant when it gets close. We need to execute better,” he said.
“It was free-flowing and everyone was touching it (the ball) in the second and third quarters when we were playing well and when it got tight and there were things you had to execute, they did and we didn’t.”
Xavier Johnson-Blount was again influential with a game-high 33 points.
