Old Collegians held off a resilient Kolora-Noorat to record its fourth consecutive win in a hard-fought Warrnambool and District league netball clash on Saturday.
The 53-37 final scoreboard wasn’t reflective of the tough battle fought between the two sides, with the Warriors only running away with the match in the final quarter.
Old Collegians co-coach Meagan Forth said she had to seek players from lower grades to fill the spots for players missing with illness, with under 15 player Chloe McKenzie and A reserve player Sara Quinn stepping up to the A grade side.
Forth said her side took a while to adjust to the Power’s frantic pressure.
“We settled as the game went on and you kind of expect that a different line up will take a little while to work out,” she said.
“We finetuned a few things and got the execution right and it worked from there and we had a really good final quarter to fend them off as they kept coming for us.
“Their defence was great, credit to them they have quite a good young side and they are in a bit of a rebuilding phase with some new ins and some experienced players departing from last year,” she said.
“But they were really good and will challenge a lot of teams this year and we were lucky to run away with it in the end.”
Kolora-Noorat coach Jody Roth said she and her girls were driven by the loss, but they felt encouraged by the performance.
“The girls and I are disappointed and that's good, as they don’t want to be second best,” she said.
“But that is the best game we have put together so far this year.”
