The Demons beat Kolora-Noorat 25-33 in their Warrnambool and District league match on Saturday.
McKenzie has returned to netball after a few years’ break, and has slotted seamlessly into Gowland’s centre position.
Gowland said she had taken a break after giving birth.
“Melissa was great,” she said. “She’s very fit and fast. She played really well on Saturday for her first game back.”
Gowland said it was good to get a win on the board after a bye in round one.
“We have managed to keep our line up from last year pretty much the same,” she said. “It was a bit of a scrappy game at times and the wet conditions didn’t help. It was tight to start with but we extended our lead as we went. We had a lot of opportunities to make the margin even better, but we had a bit of trouble converting.”
