Seahawks coach Tim Gainey said they had a brainfade in their two-point defeat to Chelsea Gulls but regrouped to toppled Collingwood All Stars 94-85.
“We had a mental blank at the very end,” he said of their efforts against the Gulls.
“There was three seconds left and we were tied and they made a full-court pass and their player snuck behind.
“Today was a bit better. We had no recovery time because it was a 1pm game but we’ve had a really good start in every game so far and we’ve put teams behind the eight-ball a bit.”
The Seahawks used their height to advantage against the All-Stars. Alex Gynes and Xavier Johnson-Blount sank 62 points between them.
Two teenagers set the tone for the Mermaids in their 62-54 win over Chelsea on Saturday night.
Mermaids coach Louise Brown said 15-year-old duo Grace Rodgers and Leah Bartlett highlighted their potential.
“I was really happy with the way they played, it was really promising,” she said.
“Leah is a point guard and is just so smart. She was aggressive, took her shots when they were there, penetrated and had a couple of assists.
“Grace is a forward type and is strong and played really good defence and had nice rebounds and got to the foul line a couple of times.”
Amy Wormald led the scoring with 29 points.
