A smaller supply of 10,842 lambs were sold, 7,728 less which greeted most of the regular gallery of processors present not all operating fully as demand was weaker at Hamilton. Quality in the decreased offering was from plain to good with heavy lambs in limited supply, many light weight 1 and 2 score pens unfinished and some good drafts of medium trade weight lambs. Restockers did provide extra competition for the store lambs during the market paying between $90 and $130/head as the majority went over the South Australian Border. Heavy weight lambs sold $4 to $7 cheaper, medium trade weights were $5 to $6 lower, light trade weights made $5 to $10 cheaper and light weights most affected being $15 to $30/head easier. It's worth noting that some isolated sales for lambs of the very good quality 25-26kg cwt sold close to unchanged in a market showing a mostly downwards trend. Light weight 2 score lambs made $65 to $98 averaging 530c and light trade weights sold from $92 to $115/head as they averaged 560c /kg cwt. Medium trade weight 2 and 3 scores sold from $105 to $138 as they averaged 580c/kg cwt and the heavier trade weight drafts of 3 scores sold between $136 to $148/head to an estimated 570c/kg cwt. The limited supply of heavy lambs 3 and 4 scores of very good quality sold from $144 to $163 sold to the most competition averaging close to 575c and the heavy export lambs 4 scores made from $147 to $165/head to average 555c/kg cwt. Sheep numbers also came back by 1,845 head as 9,225 head were offered in another mixed quality yarding with a higher percentage and more pens offered of light weight mutton due to the dry period. Demand was also easier as most sales for light and medium weight sheep were from $3 to $10 cheaper, while heavy crossbred sheep finished averaging firm and Merino wethers sold $5 to $ 10/head lower. Local restockers purchased Merino wethers from $62, $108 and $122 also paying $128 up to the overall market top of $205/head. Very light 1 score sheep made $13 to $54, light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $52 to $95/head as they averaged between 300 and 360c/kg cwt. Medium weight 2 and 3 score mutton made from $76 to $108/head with the Merino ewe mutton averaging 400c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes 3 and 4 score sold from $100 to $169 averaging 403c/kg cwt and heavy Merino ewes sold to $120/head.

A reasonable quality yarding of cattle. In particular a feature line of locally-bred Angus steers sold to strong feedlot competition. There was a big line of cows with calves at varying ages that were here for sale following the recent St Patrick’s day fires in the South West. They also sold to keen local competition which supported the vendors who lost their property’s feed in the fire. In quite a few instances, grown heifers and well-bred weaner heifers sold to a better demand than steers. There were quite a few pens of lighter weaner calves with the better bred calves sold by open auction to a keen demand. Young three month old beef-bred calves sold to a weaker demand realising cheaper trends that haven’t been seen for some time. Dairy-bred steers and heifers also showed reasonable competition, and there was a line of station-bred PTIC Angus heifers for early spring and late spring calving, that were consigned for sale owing to extremely dry conditions that sold to better than expected competition.
