Port Fairy's Gardens Oval to host Hampden league junior matches following Cobden bushfires

A last-minute tweak to the Hampden league junior fixture was made to help those working on the Cobden bushfires recovery effort.

Port Fairy will welcome Cobden to Gardens Oval on Sunday for round one junior netball and football clashes.

The games were originally fixtured to be played at Cobden Recreation Reserve.

The two clubs’ round 10 matches on Sunday, June 24 will now be played at Cobden. Hampden league worked closely with the Bombers, CFA, EPA and JLT insurance in relation to the St Patrick’s Day peat fires and decided it was the best outcome in the interest of safety.

“You may have noticed the regular warnings in the area of toxic gases that are emitting from the fire and the risks these gases pose to the general public,” a statement from AFL Western District read.
