WARRNAMBOOL residents showed their support for a cash for container scheme on Monday.
The Boomerang Alliance stopped in to the city for its Big Bottle Tour, offering residents a 10c deposit for containers.
Alliance spokeswoman Annett Finger said the response to the tour had exceeded expectations. “We’ve been overwhelmed with the support and Warrnambool residents have been so enthusiastic,” Dr Finger said.
The aim of the tour is to encourage the state government to introduce a scheme similar to help reduce litter and encourage more people to recycle.
Residents were asked to sign a cash for container scheme. “We’ve spoken to hundreds of people and we’ve got hundreds of signatures,” Dr Finger said.
Warrnambool’s Liam Harrison brought along a bag of plastic containers to do his bit. He said he was passionate about the environment and hopes the government will introduce the scheme.
The big bottle will stop by the Fiddlers Green in Port Fairy from 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday.
