The retired man, who wants to remain anonymous, shares in $986,236 in prizemoney from the TattsLotto draw almost two weeks ago.
The man bought his winning ticket at Reinheimers Newsagency & Lotto in Koroit Street, but as it wasn’t registered, officials had no way of contacting him to claim his prize.
The retiree said a change in routine meant he had overlooked checking his ticket.
“I usually check my tickets when I put my next entry in, but I had something to do last Saturday so I overlooked it. I didn’t think to check it until I bought my ticket today for this Saturday,” he said.
“Better late than never!”
When asked how he was planning to spend the windfall, the winner said he was still letting the news sink in.
“I think I have to come back down to earth first. Got to get everything straightened out first before I do anything,” he said.
“Wintertime is coming up so we might leave town for some warmer weather.”
Reinheimers Newsagency & Lotto staff member Michele Sandland said she was thrilled the winner had finally be found.
“It was a great surprise to find our winner today,” she said.
“We are so happy one of our regular customers and a local to the area has won and it is fantastic that it has finally be claimed.”
