Bud Knackstedt said the festival attracted hundreds of people, the turnout exceeding expectations with food vendors selling out twice.
He said the visiting monks were impressed with the festival, and he hoped that it proved there was enough demand to have monks visit on a more regular basis.
Mr Knackstedt said the goal was to eventually have a temple in Warrnambool with a monk based here at least a few days a week.
“We’re a multicultural town here and we need to cater for different religions, Buddhism is just one of them,” he said. There was a large number of Buddhists in Warrnambool, he said.
