Warrnambool police Senior Sergeant Shane Keogh said a number of extra police officers would be working on the weekend.
“All police vehicles will be targeting drink driving, speeding and distraction offences,” Senior Sergeant Keogh said.
Motorists will also be subject to drug tests over the weekend.
Senior Sergeant Keogh urged people to take care on the roads.
“Historically this is a weekend where there are more fatalities and more serious trauma than most weekends,” Senior Sergeant Keogh said.
“I would encourage people to take a break if they’re feeling tired.”
Senior Sergeant Keogh said police would also be targeting intoxicated people.
“If you drink alcohol to the nuisance of others we will be taking a zero tolerance approach and you will be processed in accordance with the law,” he said.
Minister for Police Lisa Neville said police would saturate holiday hot spots over the weekend as part of Operation Arid.
