The managing director made the comments at the launch of a series of videos which celebrated the contribution of women at Wannon Water.
He said achieving greater equality in the workplace had many benefits and was also the right thing to do.
Wannon Water board chair Jacinta Ermacora said the videos celebrated all the women who worked at the organisation and said there were small changes that could create significant change. “We’ve changed the language we use in advertisements which have sometimes been in the past subtlety masculine,” she said. “We’ve added the phrase ‘flexibility is available to the right person’.”
Ms Ermacora said the organisation’s commitment to learning about the dynamics of family violence and sponsoring an art prize had paid off significantly.
She said of the last 15 appointees, two thirds of them had been women with a strict adherence to merit. “It’s just that more women are putting themselves forward,” she said. “You don’t need to change much to open it all up.”
