Between the Christmas and New Year period a large amount of seaweed was present on the beach, between Worm Bay and the Pavilion area.
A Warrnambool City Council spokesman said there was a regular cleaning schedule for the seaweed.
“The beach is cleaned on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays,” he said.
“It is also inspected regularly and cleaned at other times as required.
“The council’s beach cleaning program runs from December until early May.”
The beach has been popular with residents and holiday makers, with the council-run Beachfest drawing crowds participating in free, fun activities.
On Thursday there is beach netball and on Friday there is a snags on the sand beach barbecue, sand sculpting and volleyball.
South-west beaches will likely be a hot-spot to cool off on Saturday, with temperatures set to rise to a maximum of 38.
