Police had issued a call for public assistance on Friday, December 29, to find Mr Gibson when he was reported missing after last being seen taking his motorcycle for a test ride on either Tuesday December 19 or Wednesday December 20.
Senior Constable Chris Carr of Port Fairy police said Mr Gibson was missing for about 11 days before his body was found in long grass off the side of Ardonachie School Road near Macarthur on Saturday.
He was reported missing to police two days before his body was found.
Senior Constable Carr said a passer-by on a tractor saw a motorcycle’s handlebar poking out of long grass besides Ardonachie Road on Saturday and it was reported to nearby residents who found the body.
The initial police report said the motorcyclist was believed to have been travelling east and lost control around a sweeping bend, with the bike veering off road.
The area where the motorcycle was found was lower than the road bend where Mr Gibson is believed to have come off.
