The two car collision occurred at the intersection of Queen and Murray streets about 7.45am.
The man, who was the soul occupant of his vehicle, was airlifted to hospital but later died.
The 20-year-old female driver of the second vehicle and her passenger did not sustain any injuries.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
The death increased the road toll for 2017 to 257.
EARLIER: A 61-year-old Ocean Grove man remains in a critical condition today after suffering life-threatening injuries in a crash in Colac’s main street on Friday morning.
Sergeant Dale Menzies of Colac police said the man was driving a Peugeot west on Murray Street shortly before 8am on Friday when his car collided with a Toyota Landcruiser that was turning right from Murray Street into Queen Street.
The man was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital on Friday for treatment.
Sergeant Menzies said the driver of the Landcruiser, a 20-year-old woman from South Australia, had been interviewed by police.
