For the south-west export there is time to put the feet up and rest, but there is also time for him to keep up his fitness base.
“It’s always good to spend some time at home, get away from all the pressures,” McCluggage said.
“But, I’m still training, it is just a different setting to what it is at the club.”
The former Greater Western Victoria Rebels and South Warrnambool player is thrilled with his new teammate, former Hawthorn premiership captain Luke Hodge.
“It's pretty exciting having Hodgey with us,” he said.
“He is very loud and is talking a lot on the field already.
“Hodgey is a really good leader on the field, as well as off the field. Everything he provides us with his leadership is really good.”
McCluggage, Hodge and their Lions teammates are on break after a strong first half of pre-season.
“We just got use to the heat of pre-season and summer again and doing a lot of game stuff,” he said.
“The focus was on really trying to improve on some areas of our game that we struggled with last year.”
