Warrnambool Funakoshi Karate squad has returned from last weekend’s National All Styles Championship in Sydney, with a large medal tally of 12.

All six competitors who competed in the championship placed on the podium, collecting two first, two second and eight third-place finishes at the competition held at Sydney’s Olympic Park Stadium.
Leading the way for the squad was Jill Cole who had one first, one second and two third-place finishes in the veteran and light-weight black belt classes.
Katrina Conroy also impressed at the championship with a first and a third-placing in the 14 to 15 years kata and sparring classes.
“It was an enormously successful championship for us,” Funakoshi Karate instructor and squad leader Peter Conroy said.
“I am delighted with how the squad went and the results from the competition show that the groups hard work has finally paid off.”
The group now has a three-week break before pre-season training begins for the 2018 nationals.
