The Port Fairy Consolidated School student will play in the School Sport Victoria state finals after winning the Greater Western regionals section at Warrnambool on Monday.
Eric, 12, said games with his father, former Port Fairy professional Paul, added interest to their time on course.
“We are doing a competition at the moment which is first to 100,” he said of their friendly rivalry.
Eric had 43 shots to win the nine-hole regional stroke event. He said his patience paid off and helped him overcome runner-up, Merrivale competitior Fletcher Mitchem (46).
“I just took my time and thought about my shots and played good all-round golf,” Eric said.
Eric and Fletcher, along with five other Greater Western qualifiers, will compete at the state finals at Karingal on November 29. Molly O’Brien won the girls’ section.
