To The Sea will be filmed on location in Peterborough, Timboon, Simpson and surrounding areas.
Impel Pictures producer Tegan Rodgers said an October social media request for assistance from south-west residents lead to an influx of support that surprised the city-based crew.
“It’s not like the city at all,” she said.
“The people here have been so helpful and hospitable, it’s been really lovely.”
Scenes within the film will combine cliff-top vistas as well as the idyllic coastal communities along the Great Ocean Road.
“The majority of the filming will take place in Peterborough,” Ms Rodgers said.
“This is where the director Emily Dynes spent a lot of her childhood holidays and she said she couldn’t go past it as it is such a beautiful, unique location.
“We also have a few scenes at Timboon P-12 school where we will include their school bus, and then thankfully we’ve just found a location in Simpson.”
Ms Rodgers said while the end result was only a few minutes, film locations were needed for quite a few hours which affected usual business trade.
“Cheryl, the owner of the Simpson grocery store, has been kind enough to let us take over her store for a few hours which was a huge relief,” she said.
Ms Rodgers said her 19-person production crew would start shooting the 12-minute film on November 13 and she hoped for it to be completed by November 20.
Despite being reluctant to reveal too much about the film’s plot, Ms Rodgers said the film would include a mystery, children growing up and adult attitudes.
“It’s about a young girl called Erin and her friend Noah who mysteriously goes missing,” she said.
“His disappearance leads to a frantic search from the local townsfolk.
“It explores the differences in attitudes felt by both adults and young people.”
Ms Rodgers said the film would screen at independent film festivals and hopefully receive major funding.
