A teenager has died and police have launched a critical incident investigation after a crash near Taree on Saturday morning.

A 17-year-old boy was a passenger in a vehicle when it crashed on Cedar Party Road, between Taree and Wingham, around 2.30am.
The teenager died of injuries sustained in the single-vehicle crash.
The accident occurred soon after the car “had come to the attention of police”, a statement from NSW Police said, and a critical incident team is now investigating all circumstances surrounding the incident.
The 20-year-old man who was behind the wheel is assisting police with their inquiries at Taree Police Station
He has undergone mandatory blood and urine testing.
Another teenage passenger, an 18-year-old male, was taken to Taree Hospital with minor injuries.
Cedar Party Road was closed to traffic as investigators examined the crash scene.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
The critical incident team’s investigation will be subject to an independent review and will be provided to the coroner.
