It is understood that aggravated burglaries have dropped by two-thirds and home break-ins by almost half in the area covering the Warrnambool, Moyne and Corangamite councils.
South-west police crime manager Detective Senior Sergeant David Reither said a number of factors had led to the significant reduction in aggravated burglaries and burglaries in the past three months.
He said the combination of targeting recidivist offenders and judicial outcomes had led to the drop.
"Active patrols at night in areas where offences have been committed have proven effective," Detective Senior Sergeant Reither said.
"It's fair to say we are delighted with the reduction in these extremely serious offences which have an enormous impact on the victims.
“But, police members can't do our job to the best of our ability without the assistance of members of the public and we thank the community for the ongoing support," he said.
