BP IGA Express site manager Paul Kavanagh said the nearby Mortlake Road-Donovans Road intersection needed to be looked at and now was the time to complete a review.
Mr Kavanagh said while he hadn’t seen any “major accidents” he had witnessed some close calls between motorists.
“I believe something needs to be done about it,” Mr Kavanagh said.
“There’s no doubt about that. It’s a growing area and it’s only going to get busier in coming years as there’s more houses built. It’s something that’s got to be looked at for sure.”
VicRoads regional director Mark Koliba said on Wednesday he recognised the community had concerns about the safety of the intersection and would work with Victoria Police to complete a review.
His comments came after a head-on crash between two motorists at the intersection on Tuesday morning.
Mr Kavanagh said motorists leaving the BP IGA Express needed to be patient and wait for a break in the traffic before they could cross Mortlake Road.
“It is an inconvenience but people do have to wait for a period of time to get across,” he said.
Mr Kavanagh said the road was used by a large amount of traffic. “I’ve lived in this area for 22 years and seen it grow. It’s growing at a rapid rate.
"It’s good it’s being raised now before it gets to a point where it gets busier.”
Readers continued to flood The Standard Facebook page with ways to improve the intersection. Casey Rooth suggested blocking off BP’s Mortlake Road access to make drivers use the Centro traffic lights instead. Rex Conn and Hannah Carrucan said a roundabout would help to improve traffic flow at the intersection, while Peter Punch called for an alternative northern exit/entry road into the city.
