Hinkley, a dual Hampden premiership mentor with Camperdown, replaced Ma 2012 after stints as an assistant coach at Geelong and Gold Coast.
The extension will tie him to the club until at least the end of 2021.
Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas was confident the club was “heading in the right direction” with Hinkley at the helm.
“Football is a brutal game and Ken has led a football program that has seen us play in three of the last five finals series,” Thomas said.
“Ken has a 57 per cent winning record, including four seasons where we have won more games than we’ve lost.
Hinkley said he was as eager to lead the Power’s upcoming pre-season, hailing the club’s “well resourced” football program.
“I feel I have the energy and drive to ensure I can lead Port Adelaide’s climb over the coming years,” he said.
“We had a vision when I started at the end of 2012 and I’m just as committed to Port Adelaide as the club is to me to give our vision the best chance to succeed.”
