Hamilton police Sergeant Paul Stanhope said the car was reported as stolen at 2.15am on Saturday from a home in Bree Road in Hamilton.
Sergeant Stanhope said police knew the car was stolen and pulled the 25-year-old driver over at 5.50am in Kent Road as part of a routine check.
Sergeant Stanhope said the owner of the car and the accused were known to each other and the driver co-operated with police.
The man was charged with drink driving, driving while disqualified, theft of a motor vehicle and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
