Detective Senior Constable Wayne Ryan, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said offenders went to a Hopkins Highway property, just south of Bushfield Oval, where they gained entry to a shed by removing a door.
The $6000 Yamaha Grizzly 450cc quad bike, which had a log splitter attached by a tow bar, was taken from the shed.
Detective Senior Constable Ryan said it was expected that the quad bike and wood splitter would have been loaded onto a trailer to be transported from the address.
He said the quad bike was valued at $6000 and the wood splitter about $1000.
"We would request that anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in that area overnight Thursday, such as a vehicle and trailer, contact the Warrnambool CIU or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," he said.
