Geelong-based AFL Barwon this week unveiled a plan to clubs to introduce a salary cap and points system – akin to the footy salary cap and points system – in 2019.
But AFL Western District regional general manager Kate Williamson said there was no need yet for similar measures in the south-west.
“Salary caps come in because you’re really needing to even up the competition,” she said. “I think, looking around, while some clubs at district level who have dominated in netball, there’s quite a spread (of success).
“If it’s seeming that domination is happening across leagues over time, then a points system could be imposed here, but it’s not something on our radar yet.
“But we’d certainly love to see netballers getting the recognition they deserve in terms of salary.”
