ALEC chief executive Simon Westaway said key industry groups had welcomed the proposed $6 per head charge.
Mr Westaway said given the importance of the issue, ALEC had extended the consultation period to October 13.
ALEC has said the existing voluntary $6 a head charge was significantly under-collected. It said the statutory charge would ensure the industry’s service delivery body, LiveCorp, was adequately resourced to undertake research, development and engineering, and provide technical support to exporters.
The dairy cattle export industry was worth $127 million in 2016-2017.
Mr Westaway said the industry was likely to vote on the charge at ALEC’s annual general meeting on November 14.
