Coolana Angus principal Mark Gubbins described its spring sale offering of 72 two year-old Angus bulls last week as its best draft of bulls to date.

Sixty seven of 72 Coolana Angus bulls sold to a top of $14,000 with an average of $6089.
Fifty five registered bidders competed for the well grown, well muscled bulls at the Chatsworth sale.
Fourteen of 23 XSimm Black Simmentals sold to a top of $6500 and an average of $4857.
The top priced bull, Coolana Black Pearl L666 by the imported sire Sydgen Black Pearl 2006 was purchased by GE&AM Hiscock, Morgiana, Hamilton.
Gerard Hiscock was impressed with the bull’s figures, great growth, high milk and softness. Its figures included +4.9 for birth, +54 for 200 day growth, +92 for 400 day growth, +126 for 600 day growth with an EMA of +6.3 and marbling +2.2.
The Stoney family, Ellingerrin Pastoral Co, Inverleigh, bid to $12,000 for Lot 8, a well grown son of Te Mania 11 465 with balanced figures, clean lines and a correct structure.
Ellingerrin also bought two more bulls with similar characteristics, Lot 43 at $8000 and Lot 47 at $5000.
Treetop Estate, Meningie, SA, also bought a Sydgen Black Pearl 2006 son with balanced figures highlighted by a low birth figure of +3. The bull’s dam Coolana Nightingale D136 had six sons in the sale, averaging $7312.
Treetop Estate finished with six bulls averaging $7200. Its purchases included Lot 7, also by Sydgen Black Pearl 2006, with a low birth figure of +2.8 for $11,000.
Regular buyers Mooramook, Caramut, took a son of Sydgen Black Pearl 2006 also with a low birth figures of +1.9, for $11,000. Both this bull and the top priced bull were used by Coolana last spring.
The 12 bulls sired by Sydgen Black Pearl 2006 averaged $8625.
Five of the bulls sold at $10,000 or more.
Everest Farm, Eden Hills, SA, bid to $10,500 for two sons of Sydgen Black Pearl 2006.
The buyer of last year’s top bull, SJ&NJ McLeod, Macarthur secured a son of Ardrossan Equator for $10,000.
This bull had high growth figures and +7.8 for EMA.
Volume buyers included Linlithgow Plains, Devon Park, Dunkeld, with 11 bulls, averaging $4727.
Each with five bulls were DCF Marine, which bought to $8000, and Amherst Livestock Trust (to $5000).
The Black Simmental bulls on offer were all autumn 2016 drop and were four to five months younger than the Angus bulls but still had magnificent growth and muscle pattern.
Yera Estate, Leslie Manor, paid the top price of $6500 and took another at $4000.
