The club has cancelled an event scheduled for Sunday and riders cannot practise on the track after more than 70mm of rain in the past two weeks.

Club member Tracy Chilton said it was an ongoing, frustrating issue due to a blocked drainage channel.

The channel is part of the Nullawarre district drainage system. It diverts run-off water into Lake Gillear and then to the Hopkins River.

“The run-off comes out there and it needs to be cleared,” she said.

“One year we cleaned out the drain ourselves.”

Ms Chilton said members were disappointed last year they couldn’t use the track for three months.

“There is a lot of land between Lake Gillear and the river, and other properties are also affected,” she said.

The Standard reported in 2013 the blocked channel had flooded an Allansford farm, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost pasture.

Life member Roger Laycock said the club had between 150 to 200 members, and of those 130 were motorbike riders. 

“People join for 12 months and then they can’t use the track for three,” he said.

The Standard sought comment from Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority and the Warrnambool City Council on whose responsibility it was to maintain the channel.
