A spokeswoman from the Hamilton Base Hospital confirmed the condition of the semi-trailer driver, who hit the power pole after swerving to avoid colliding with another vehicle.
Hamilton police Sergeant Pam Nix said the driver was avoiding colliding with a flat-bed truck approaching the highway from Condah-Hotspur Upper Road.
The crash took place at about 3.45pm.
