Hamilton police Sergeant Pam Nix said the semi-trailer was travelling south when the driver veered to avoid a collision with a flat-bed truck joining the highway from Condah-Hotspur Upper Road.
Sergeant Nix said the driver of the semi-trailer, who was travelling to Portland, was admitted to Hamilton Base Hospital and the driver of the other vehicle was treated for shock.
She said the semi-trailer driver had taken evasive action, and police would lay charges against the driver of the flat-bed truck.
“The truck was travelling south towards Portland across the railway lines,” Sergeant Nix said.
“The driver sighted a truck coming in at the right-hand side travelling too fast and the truck has tried to avoid colliding with the other vehicle and collided with the power pole.”
