"It was a fantastic win, it was a great overall effort," Sumner said.
"Our tackling and effort got us over the line, we are not the most skillful team but we certainly had a strong will to win."
In a low-scoring contest, Dennington kicked a valuable goal in the opening quarter to lead by eight points at the first break.
Neither team kicked a goal in the second quarter before adding a goal each in the third to give the Dogs a five-point buffer with a quarter to play.
The last quarter was an arm-wrestle and with no goals scored and the Dogs hung on for an eight-point win.
Dennington onballer Jett Bermingham was awarded the medal for best on ground.
Captain Ned Payne was a tireless four-quarter performer for the Power.
