The children and three teachers will perform at the Victorian State Schools Spectacular at Hisense Arena on September 16. The Koroit members will dance and are also part of a 1300-voice choir. The show features a 64-piece orchestra, 1200 mass dancers, 30 lead vocalists, a magician, roller skaters and puppeteers.
Layla Boyd, 12, said they would perform 15 songs and were enjoying the rehearsals. “It’s my last year of primary school and I wanted to have fun,” Layla said. “It’s tiring but it’s fun.” Scarlett Hunter, 12, said it was a good experience and the performance was full of great songs including a rousing rendition of John Farnham’s You’re The Voice.
Teacher Briarley Rivett said the children were having lots of fun and they had been to Melbourne for two rehearsals. “It’s been a lot of work but they are so excited about it,” she said. “They’re just thrilled.”
