Warrnambool's Penny Simon fined after pleading guilty

A DRUNK woman arrested for ranting and raving in Warrnambool streets has been fined $1200.

Penny Fran Simon, 47, of Ocean Grove, Warrnambool, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court late on Wednesday to being drunk and disorderly, acting prejudicial to the good running of a jail, making threats, possessing cannabis and two counts of trespassing and three of offensive behaviour.

Police said Simon was sent a notice banning her from Warrnambool’s Centrelink office in Lava Street from June 28 due to her escalating aggressive and abusive behaviour.

She was given a staff member's number to contact if needed.

The court was told that on July 6 Simon went to the office of South West Coast MP Roma Britnell in Liebig Street.

She was highly intoxicated and screaming at staff which prompted them to lock the doors.

The next day Simon went back to Centrelink in breach of her barring order where she was aggressive and abusive.

Simon told a staff member "wait until you're out in the street …  you're gone".

On Tuesday at 1.30pm police were again called to Centrelink because Simon was drunk.

She was highly abusive to police officers and after being arrested, threw the contents of her pockets at officers at the police station.

In a search of her possessions, police found 1.5 grams of cannabis.
