Roach was speaking after receiving the Sri Chimmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run Torch-Bearer Award for his services to the community.
With many of the peace run participants young people, Roach highlighted the need to keep an eye on the future.
“It’s a real privilege,” Roach said of the award win.
“When it’s time for us to give this earth back to our children, hopefully we can return it in reasonable condition.
“Or just as good as what it was given to us, before war, before people started to fight each other.”
The peace run features a team of runners from 13 nations. Between them, team members will cover the 3500kms. The team stopped in Port Fairy for a community reception which included a welcome from Moyne Shire Council mayor Jim Doukas.
