The Russells Creek footballer was taken to hospital by ambulance, with neck pain sparking fear in the trainers who attended him as he lay on the field.
While chasing the ball, he attempted to weave around an opponent and was caught in an awkward tackle, but MRI scans and X-rays earlier this week cleared him of any structural damage.
“(The scans) just made sure everything was still intact: my ligaments and muscles,” Robertson said. “Everything came back and it was just soft tissue damage.”
The 16-year-old is still dealing with pain in his neck and shoulders, and will have to await the doctor’s okay to return to the field after being concussed, but said he was eager to get stuck back into footy.
“(I’ll be back) hopefully as soon as possible,” he said.
Robertson’s father Wayne said the family had received an outpouring of support in the wake of the incident.
“He was pretty lucky – it was one of those football incidents (that could’ve turned bad),” Wayne said.
“The bloke that actually did it (the tackle), he messaged him on Sunday morning to see if he was OK and to see if there was anything he could do for him.”
