Leishman finished tied for 27th after finishing the four-round major at Wisconsin’s Erin Hills course at one-under par.
He was four-under par entering the final day’s play but fired a three-over par 75 to fall off the pace.
The US-based Leishman finished strongly with a birdie on his final hole.
Leishman was the last Australian standing after fellow countrymen Jason Day and Adam Scott missed the cut after round two.
American Brooks Koepka won his first major, finishing 16 under. It was the seventh consecutive major a first-time winner was crowned.
Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and America’s Brian Harman were four shots back to tie for second.
