A police arson chemist was called to attend the Gnotuk Road house on Thursday afternoon.
CFA operations manager for district six, Dean Mason, referred the fire to police and said it was being treated suspiciously.
He said the Camperdown brigade was called to the blaze at 7.05am and two trucks and a commander vehicle attended along with two trucks from Cobden.
He said there was a fire within the unoccupied house and a small fire at a shed which was not attached to the house.
Mr Mason said there was some smoke damage done to the house.
He praised the efforts of firefighters who he said responded quickly and helped limit the damage done.
